Crane watch in Miami Beach

Crane watch in Miami Beach

The Business Journal offers a interactive map that shows developments in Miami. The map has recently expended to include Miami Beach.

You can currently find 52 projects in Miami. These projects are either under construction or in progress. Clicking on each project would provide information on the project, as shown below for the prestigious Monad Terrace project on West Avenue.

We’ve counted 17 multifamily, 9 retail, 9 mixed-use and 14 hotels. Combined they represent 1,693 hotel rooms, 695,605 square feet of retail, 11,062 square feet of office space, and an increase of 1,465 residential units.

Of of 52 projects, 16 are under construction already. The rest is under construction. In addition to the expansion of both the Miami Beach Convention Center and Mount Sinai Medical Center, the projects under construction will add a combined 559 hotel rooms, 301,532 square feet of retail, and 329 residential units.

There is really nothing like our Miami Beach island, being a world attraction for vacation. We are really the world’s vacation land. The city’s parks, diverse culture, great weather, museums and artistic venues have made it a strong drawn to both tourists and residents. We hope to break ground later this year on a Whole Foods Market on Alton Road and 1212 Lincoln, with a CitizenM hotel and retail.

While multiple factors have drawn many developers to the city, Miami Beach’s zoning codes don’t allow residential units smaller than 550 square feet, and each new building must average at least 800 square feet per unit. Combined with the requirements for parking spaces, zoning codes make it difficult to develop apartments for working-class residents in the city.

Go ahead and explore watch the multiple project going on in Miami Beach. Explore and have fun with it.
